In May 2003 the Court of Justice of the European Communities ruled (judgement Az:C-385/99) that insured patients may choose freely the European Union country where they wish to be given non-hospital care and that the expenses of the medical procedures will be covered by the patient's insurance institutions. The condition is that the non-hospital care procedure be on the list of the medical services reimbursed by the patient's country insurance institution.
